Book Buddies Reading App

A concept that allows users to enjoy a typically solo activity within a digital, and in person community.

Interface Tour

The idea began when I struggled to find a reading app that met all my needs, leading me to create one that:

Incentivize reading

Allow users to connect with friends and leave reviews

Gather a list of books for future reads

Have a book club feature that encourages in-person connection

Allow friends to send book recommendations

  • First, I researched competitors like GoodReads, Letterboxd, Bookmory, and Bookly. Besides the Book Club feature, these apps almost met my needs. I used elements from each platform, along with user feedback from App Store reviews, to refine my idea, sketch, and create a wireframe.

  • I created an initial design and gathered feedback from 10 users. 70% found the text too small, 20% wanted the streak feature to be more engaging, and 50% felt the homepage was overwhelming. One user suggested adding a horizontal scroll to the bottom box. I took this feedback to shape the final design.

  • I redesigned the app to address key pain points, increasing text size, simplifying the homepage, and adding a horizontal scroll. I also revamped the streak page with stars, a weekly calendar, while ensuring all colors met accessibility standards. After testing, 10/10 users had a positive experience with no further feedback.

After addressing initial pain points,

100% of users enjoyed the interface, and faced no challenges.
